Belledune Port Authority celebrates Artists in Chaleur & Restigouche!

The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) hosted an Art Competition and Exhibition at the Belledune Recreational & Cultural Centre in Belledune, NB on October 22, 2010 as part of the BPA’s 10th anniversary celebrations.

In March 2010 the BPA extended an invitation to Artists and Artisans of the Chaleur & Restigouche regions to participate in a unique competition. The regions’ Artists were challenged to create a piece of art in their medium of choice that represents the BPA.

“Over the past 10 years the BPA has gone through transformational changes including economic, architecture, development, growth and personnel. The struggles and triumphs overcome by northern New Brunswick and the people within are somehow represented by the BPA. As the port grows so do the people who surround it,” said Jenna Doucet, BPA Director of Marketing. “The art presented in this competition was a true representation of the BPA and it was all absolutely stunning!”

Thirteen (13) Artists registered for the competition and participated in the Exhibition on October 22. Eight of the artists presented their pieces to be judged. The competing Artists were Derek Letourneau, Joan Wheeler, Edward Fitzpatrick, Cynthia DeCoste, Pamela St-Pierre, Rita May Gates, John Furey and Adrienne Hazen.

The prizes were awarded as follows:
1st place: Cynthia DeCoste – “Autumn at the Port”
2nd place: Derek Letourneau – “Port of Belledune Compass”
3rd place: John Furey – “Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow”

The Belledune Port Authority staff wishes to thank all of the Artists and Judges for their participation; congratulations to all the Artists!
