First Ship of 2007 at the Port of Belledune

BELLEDUNE, NB – The Belledune Port Authority (BPA) officially greeted Captain Slavco Koncul Master of the M.V. “Jadran”, the first ship to lay anchor at the Port of Belledune in 2007.

The “Jadran” is registered in Dubrovnik, Croatia and her loading port was Port of Bolivar, Colombia. The vessel is under the ownership of Atlantska Plovidba. The M. V. “Jadran” docked at the Port of Belledune the morning of January 8th, 2007 where the Vessel is currently unloading approximately 64 133 MT of Steam Coal for the NB Power Generating Station.

“The Jadran is the first of four vessels scheduled to lay anchor at the Port of Belledune this week alone”, stated Mr. Williamson, “I hope that this is a good indication of the traffic we should expect for 2007.”

Mr. Rayburn Doucett, President & CEO of the BPA, presented Captain Koncul with a commemorative gift at a ceremony held at the Belledune Port Authority’s Administrative offices.

He also took the opportunity to welcome the Captain to the Port of Belledune as well as thank the staff and Board of Directors for their continuous support during the last two years. He also stated that “2005 presented a record surplus and informed the people present at the ceremony that 2006 should also prove to be another exceptional year”. Despite the fact that the tonnage handled in 2006 is lower versus 2005, we are expecting a substantial surplus again this year mainly due to efficient management and Board direction.

Many dignitaries were present including the Mayor of the Village of Belledune, Mr. Nick Duivenvoorden who welcomed the Captain and his crew to the community. Representatives from NB Power and other terminal operators also attended the ceremony.
